GAFFEProject at Central Saint Martins
For my Information + Systems unit, our brief was to explore the process and meaning of ‘translation’, using OULIPO operations creatively to do so. My outcome, the short film ‘GAFFE’, explores the confusing and extensive translation of the word, questioning whether this process combats or encourages confusion. My chosen focus within the OULIPO operations was substitution and division, so I created my own type, dividing the word into sections and substituting familiar imagery to communicate an unfamiliar system of letters.
